Program Overview

The NIOS Secondary course is equivalent to the Class 10 curriculum in traditional schooling systems. It provides students with the opportunity to choose subjects that align with their interests and career aspirations. The curriculum is designed to offer comprehensive knowledge and skills across various disciplines.

Subject Options

Students are required to select a minimum of five subjects, including at least one language. The subjects are categorized into two groups:

  • Group A (Languages): English, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Punjabi, Nepali, Assamese, Marathi, Sanskrit, Malayalam, Odia, Arabic, Persian, Tamil.

  • Group B: Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Science, Economics, Business Studies, Home Science, Data Entry Operations, Psychology, Indian Culture and Heritage, Accountancy, Painting.

Assessment and Certification

Assessments are conducted through public examinations held twice a year, in April-May and October-November. Additionally, NIOS offers an On-Demand Examination system, allowing students the flexibility to appear for exams as per their preparation and convenience. Upon successful completion, students receive a Secondary Education Certificate, recognized for further studies and employment opportunities.
